Here is a fabulous last minute gift idea that you can even personalize and create for an entire family or group of kids…personalized place mats (and luggage tags) using your decorative paper scraps.
You will need a piece of black paper that measures 11×17 inches. You can tape two pieces together to get this size. You will also need paper scraps, Mod Podge, a brush, paint in the hair color of your choice and scissors.
Once your black paper is ready, cut your paper scraps to create a little person wearing decorative clothes. You could also use photographs if you don’t have time to do all of the paper crafting. Then layout your pieces before you adhere them
If you like what you see, use Mod Podge to attach your pieces then use paint to add hair color and texture. I used a Sharpie marker to draw my face.
Once your place mat is designed and dry, you will want to laminate it. If you don’t have a laminator at home, you can get this done quickly at most office supply stores (Office Max, FedEx Kinkos, etc.) for a few dollars. You can use extra scraps to create luggage tags for your traveling friends or for stocking stuffers.
This project is really fun and quite simple. Here are place mats made by a bunch of kids at Jordan’s 8th birthday party.

You could get as detailed as you want or keep it simple. Happy Creating!
